Selection

A room chosen with extraordinary care.

The rarest part of Tycoon is not the venue or the guest. It is the class itself. Every invitation is an expression of belief in who someone is now, what they may become, and what they will bring to the people growing beside them.

The bar

Would this person still be in the room in fifteen years, and would everyone else be glad they were?

The first clause tests trajectory. Is this person on a slope that plausibly keeps them in consequential rooms over time?

The second tests character and contribution. Will exceptional peers still want to know, trust, and grow alongside them when the titles arrive?

Both matter. The most extraordinary class is built from people whose ambition and generosity make one another stronger.

Trajectory is velocity relative to opportunity.

Tycoon does not select the most accomplished people. It selects people whose evidence is exceptionally strong relative to their stage and opportunity.

A twenty-seven-year-old vice president at a major company may have an extraordinary trajectory. The title does not automatically invite them, and it does not disqualify them as already successful. A twenty-four-year-old who quietly built something from scratch may also have an extraordinary trajectory. Founding something does not automatically put them ahead. Plenty of things get founded and go nowhere.

Neither prestige nor scrappiness is the criterion. The question is the strength of the slope, given the system someone is operating within.

Four dimensions

What we hope to recognize in you.

There is no single Tycoon résumé. We look for four qualities that can appear across industries, backgrounds, and very different kinds of ambition.

01

Trajectory

Is this person moving faster than their stage or circumstances would predict?

Promoted faster than peers. Entrusted with responsibility beyond their level. Built something that gained real adoption. Created work with consequences beyond what their tenure would predict. Rate of change matters more than current altitude.

02

Agency

Has this person caused things to happen that were unlikely to happen without them?

Initiation, ownership, resourcefulness, and follow-through. Something exists, changed, grew, shipped, or became possible because this person decided to make it happen. Ambition without demonstrated agency is not enough.

03

Contribution and character

Will this person make exceptional people more valuable to one another?

Generosity. Trustworthiness. Credit shared correctly. Introductions made without keeping score. Doors held open behind them. A network cannot compound among people who treat every relationship as an exchange.

04

Substance

Is this person interesting beyond the résumé?

Something they know deeply. Something they visibly care about. A point of view they have actually developed. A problem they have considered longer than most people around them. A room of impressive résumés with nothing to say is still a bad room.

Looking beyond the obvious

Your logos are not the most interesting thing about you.

Company prestige. School. Title. Follower count. Capital raised. Family background. Wealth.

These may help us understand your context, but they do not define your potential. We are looking for the evidence beneath them, including what you caused, what you learned deeply, and how you changed the people and work around you.

Recognize trajectory before consensus.

The spirit of the room

You may belong here if…

  • You want peers to know deeply, not simply more people to add to your network.
  • You are as interested in contributing to someone else’s trajectory as advancing your own.
  • You have built, changed, held together, or made possible something a title alone cannot explain.
  • You bring curiosity, generosity, discernment, and a point of view worth sharing.
  • You are excited by who the people beside you are becoming, not only by what they can provide today.

If that feels familiar, we hope you will let us learn more about you.

The process

How a decision gets made.

A considered process, designed to make evidence easier to see and prestige harder to mistake for it.

01

Invitation request

Open to anyone. No relationship with Tycoon is required, and no nomination is necessary.

02

Evidence review

Each request is considered against the four dimensions, with logos and titles treated as context rather than proof.

03

Founder conversation

A real conversation, not an interrogation. This is where substance, judgment, and character become legible.

04

Targeted verification

References are requested only when the case turns on something we should confirm.

05

Decision

The selection decision is recorded before any conversation about money. Money funds the seat. It does not buy it.

A nomination helps us find you. It does not lower the bar.

Trusted nominations are an important way to discover someone, and nominators are asked for evidence rather than endorsement. A nomination-only institution, however, would reproduce exactly the problem Tycoon exists to solve: privileging whoever already knows the right person.

Someone should be able to discover Tycoon without already belonging to the network Tycoon is trying to build.

Perhaps the people you have been waiting to meet are waiting for this room too.
